The youngest preschoolers attend Preschool I at Needham Children's Center. Here we emphasize skill development, with the children's day including ample time for supervised free play, outdoor play, art, music, and language and listening skills activities. We place importance on self-help skills, such as putting away materials and dressing one's self. Academics, including colors, numbers, shapes, and letters, are introduced in a developmentally appropriate manner. The early preschooler learns learns by doing, and, at Preschool I, she/he is encouraged to do so.
